Hi, I’m Squids. I don’t have a pinned post yet, so here’s one.

I’m a digital artist running around the Midwestern con circuit. I make wooden pins and art prints and reblog a ton of shitposts. I’m 32, she/her, ace, and married.

I suck at tagging things, but most of my art should be here.

I write a lot but… I don’t really post it. I am, unfortunately, pretty shy about that but if you’re a moot/friend and are curious hit me up some time. I’ve probably written something for all the fandoms I’m in. I’m also (somewhat spottily) available to beta your writing if you want fresh eyes to stare at something. What do you do with a BA in English? Edit fanfiction, apparently.

My fandoms include: Star Trek, X-Files, Fullmetal Alchemist, Jak and Daxter, Invader Zim, Homestuck (a sleeping beast but still present), Shin Megami Tensei, X-Men (Logurt forever baby), My Hero Academia, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Mad Max, The Sandman, Dungeons and Dragons, MP100, Legend of Zelda, Steven Universe, Lord of the Rings, and the Fallout games

See aforementioned sucking at tagging, but I try to mark posts containing gore, body horror, medical stuff, and animal harm. I don’t post screamers and I avoid posting depressing things too. (This does mean that I avoid posting about certain current events. Please know that this is frankly because I care too much about everything, not that I don’t care at all)

I’m in recovery from some stuff. Some days I do better than others. Be gentle to each other, yeah? We’re all Going Through It.

I feel like witches are sedentary and wizards are migratory. A witch has a home, a cauldron, herbs, you go to them with your problem. A wizard wanders, disappears, shows up at inconvenient times to fix nothing. am i making sense

With Halloween just around the corner, NASA has released its latest Galaxy of Horrors posters. Presented in the style of vintage horror movie advertisements. As fun and creative as all three posters are, they’re based on real phenomena. 🎃

Can you hear this exoplanet screaming?

As HD 80606 b approaches its star from an extreme, elliptical orbit, it suffers star-grazing torture that causes howling, supersonic winds and shockwave storms across the planet. Its torturous journey boils its atmosphere to a hellish 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit every 111 days, roasting both its light and dark sides. HD 80606b will never escape this scorching nightmare.

This bone-chilling force will leave you shivering alone in terror!

An unseen power is prowling throughout the cosmos, driving the universe to expand at a quickening rate. This relentless pressure, called dark energy, is nothing like dark matter, that mysterious material only revealed by its gravitational pull. Dark energy offers a bigger fright: pushing galaxies farther apart over trillions of years, leaving the universe to an inescapable, freezing death in the pitch black expanse of outer space.

Cygnus X-1 Presents:

It’s Dinner Time and You’re The Meal!

Lurking in our galaxy, approximately 6,000 light-years from Earth, is a monster named CygnusX-1. This black hole, which has about 14.8 times the mass of our Sun, will stretch and squeeze anything it captures in its immense gravity. Cygnus X-1 is waiting, snacking on its neighboring star. Don’t get too close, or you’ll become its next meal!

This chillingly haunted galaxy mysteriously stopped making stars only a few billion years after the Big Bang! It became a cosmic cemetery, illuminated by the red glow of decaying stars. Dare to enter, and you might encounter the frightening corpses of exoplanets or the final death throes of once-mighty stars.

Something strange and mysterious creeps throughout the cosmos. Scientists call it dark matter. It is scattered in an intricate web that forms the skeleton of our universe. Dark matter is invisible, only revealing its presence by pushing and pulling on objects we can see. NASA’s Roman Space Telescope will investigate its secrets. What will be revealed?

In the depths of the universe, the cores of two collapsed stars violently merge to release a burst of the deadliest and most powerful form of light, known as gamma rays. These beams of doom are unleashed upon their unfortunate surroundings, shining a million trillion times brighter than the Sun for up to 30 terrifying seconds. No spaceship will shield you from the blinding destruction of the gamma ray ghouls!

image

These doomed worlds were among the first and creepiest to be discovered as they orbit an undead star known as a pulsar. Pulsar planets like Poltergeist and its neighboring worlds, Phobetor and Draugr, are consumed with constant radiation from the star’s core. Nothing but the undead can subsist in this most inhospitable corner of the galaxy.

This far-off blue planet may look like a friendly haven – but don’t be deceived! Weather here is deadly. The planet’s cobalt blue color comes from a hazy, blow-torched atmosphere containing clouds laced with glass. Howling winds send the storming glass sideways at 5,400 mph (2km/s), whipping all in a sickening spiral. It’s death by a million cuts on this slasher planet!

[a TikTok video by @deafcarguy. A man with a beard faces the camera. You can see him from the chest up. He is wearing an orange shirt and a backwards baseball cap. He is drinking from a beer can.

He signs with one hand at the camera, with text overlain:

“I’m reading a horror book in Braille”

“Something terrible’s about to happen”

The camera zooms in on his face starting intently as he signs

“I can feel it”

He takes a big drink and the video ends]

May his memory be a blessing.

Willem Arondéus (22 August 1894 – 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo. Arondéus was caught and executed soon after his arrest. Yad Vashem recognized Arondéus as Righteous Among the Nations.

Their attack, which took place on 27 March 1943, was partially successful, and they managed to destroy 800,000 identity cards, and retrieve 600 blank cards and 50,000 guilders. The building was blown up and no one was caught on the night of the attack. However, due to an unknown betrayer, Arondéus was arrested on 1 April 1943. Arondéus refused to give up the rest of his team.

Arondéus was openly gay before the war and defiantly asserted his sexuality before his execution. His final words were:

“Tell the people that homosexuals are not by definition weak.”

From Wikipedia

He was also a pretty great artist

What did he DO?  Why must he be blindfolded?  SIR!?  What crimes have your eyes committed?

Here’s a nice explanation I found on Reddit (have not fact checked myself)

Oh I had forgotten that such a friend is not actually present yet.  : )  Thank you.  You’d think as a spirit worker, with a passing familiarity with Fu Lions and other esoteric friends, that that possibility would have occurred to me immediately.  I really appreciate you, @shrimpshrampshromp!

my fav genre of furry art, is people’s fursonas just doing mundane things that the fursona’s owner does. So you got drawings of like super buff glowing dragons sitting at a computer drinking mountain dew. It’s legitimately charming.
